I'm scouring the Web for some
good tutorials that other people have already made. I am also creating
some new ones of my own.
My Tutorials
Very Basic Flash
These narrated screencasts are only 10 minutes each. They are aimed
at complete beginners.
Tutorial for Using CSS in Flash
Very basic. Just download the FLA and the CSS file, and it will work
for you.
Tutorial for Using CSS with XML in Flash
This shows you a relatively simple way to format documents with XML and
load them dynamically into a Flash container for easy viewing. An external
CSS style sheet controls the design of the text.
Tutorial for Using Movie Clips in Flash
See the difference between animating directing on the main Timeline in
Flash and using movie clips (which have their own independent Timelines)
instead.
Other Tutorials
Here are a few
free tutorials that other people have made and that
I recommend (honestly, they are the cream of the crop):
Creating Symmetrical Round Objects
The example here looks like a half an orange with perfect sections
showing. This is a great tutorial for someone who has already become
comfortable with the basic drawing tools in Flash. You'll learn some
very useful advanced techniques. (Found at Kirupa.com.)
Understanding the Coordinate System in Flash
Sure, this is not sexy -- but using those X,Y coordinates in ActionScript
is how you reall harness the power of Flash! (From LukaMaras.com,
where you will find many more great tutorials.)
Creating a Simple Flash Document
If you are an absolute beginner -- never even opened Flash before --
this new four-page intro from Adobe is just for you.
Lee Brimelow's Video Tutorials
Customize your Flash video player with all kinds of custom video controls,
via ActionScript. There are eight separate tutorials
for video here.
You can't be afraid of ActionScript if you want to try these. Scroll
in the list of all tutorials to find Video Basics
Part 1, and start
there! (Brimelow has many other great tutorials too! Same link.) To
play downloaded FLV files, I recommend the Democracy
player (it's
GREAT).
Icon Animation
This is actually more useful than it sounds. It shows you how to create
a mask with a shape tween and also make an image squish,
bounce, grow large and then fade out. (I would change Step 6 and Convert
to Symbol instead.) At the same site, check out the Cool
Image Effect tutorial. This is a good, brief example of effects you can create
on any photo that you have imported into Flash.
Importing a Logo from Photoshop
In this two-part tutorial, Ray Villalobos shows you how to prepare
a fat, juicy logo in Photoshop and then use Flash to animate it with
a cool blur effect (see also Part
II). Ray also produces a
video podcast consisting of Flash tips.
Drawing and Animating a Character
If you'd like to try some character animation, this is a great introduction.
You should be familiar with the basic drawing tools in Flash first.
And even though it says it's for Flash MX 2004, it is perfectly good
for Flash 8 Professional. (From Adobe's Flash
Developer Center.)
