A very common use of a movie clip symbol in Flash is to allow a panel or overlay to slide over top of everything else in the package, without disturbing any of the other functionality. This is demonstrated below with the Credits panel on the left side.
You need to upgrade your Flash player (v.9 or later) to view this tutorial.
This tutorial takes the format of a class exercise (that is, something students could work on in a computer lab). The files supplied are an unfinished FLA (the sliding panel is built, but it is not inside a movie clip yet) and a PDF file with instructions to help you construct the sliding panel yourself.
DOWNLOAD You'll find the FLA and the instructions (PDF file) in this folder. Note that this FLA does not contain the animations seen above (to keep the Timeline simpler for you).
Education use: This package was created as an example for my journalism students. It is not intended to be used commercially.
